Gold price calculator
ReadyWork out what gold is worth in AUD from the live international spot price and exchange rate: 24K, 22K, 18K and 14K, per gram, kilogram or troy ounce, with dealer premium, fees, making charge and GST as separate lines.
How to use
- Check the reference prices at the top: the international spot price (USD per troy ounce) and the USD → AUD rate, each with its source, quote time and when our server fetched it.
- To use a price from a local dealer or bullion shop instead, choose “Enter a dealer price” and type the price of pure (24K) gold per gram or per troy ounce.
- Pick buying or selling, enter the weight and unit, and choose the purity (24K, 22K, 18K, 14K) or type the exact gold content.
- Add a dealer premium or spread (%), a fixed fee, a making charge and the GST rate if they apply – each is shown as its own line.
Formula
- Pure gold per gram = spot price (USD/oz) × USD→AUD rate ÷ 31.1034768
- Metal value = price per gram × weight (g) × gold content
- Buying = metal value + premium + fixed fee + making charge, then + GST at the rate you enter
- Selling = metal value − premium − fixed fee
- 1 troy ounce = 31.1034768 g; 22K = 22/24 = 91.667%, 18K = 75%, 14K = 58.5%
Worked example
Assuming spot gold at $2,400/oz and 1 USD = 1.52 AUD (illustrative figures, not today’s prices): pure gold is about $117.29 per gram and $3,648.00 per troy ounce. One ounce of 22K gold contains $3,344.00 worth of gold, and 10 g of 18K jewellery about $879.64 before any premium or GST.
FAQ
Why is the result different from my local dealer’s price?
This is the international spot price converted to your currency. Dealers add a premium (for bars and coins) or pay less than spot when they buy (to cover refining and margin), and retail prices may include tax. Use the premium field, or choose “Enter a dealer price”, to match a real quote.
What does “Delayed value” mean?
Our server couldn’t refresh the price, so it shows the last value it received together with the time it was fetched. Values older than 24 hours are never shown – you’ll see a failure message instead and can type a price yourself.
Do I have to pay GST on gold?
It depends on the product and where you are. Investment-grade bullion is often exempt or taxed differently from jewellery, so the tax rate starts at 0% and you enter the rate that applies to your purchase. Check with the seller or your tax authority.
Why is 22K gold 91.667%?
Karats are parts out of 24, so 22K is 22/24 = 91.667% gold. If your item is stamped differently (for example 916 or 750), type that content in the gold content field.
