Partial

Estimate 2026–27 take-home pay for an Australian resident: income tax from the ATO resident rates, the low income tax offset and the 2% Medicare levy, with your employer’s 12% super shown separately.

Partial support: Resident with the tax-free threshold, annual estimate. The Medicare levy low-income reduction (2026–27 thresholds not yet published by the ATO), HELP repayments, the Medicare levy surcharge and PAYG withholding rounding are not modelled.

Rules applied

Checked on 2026-10-20 · tax year 2026–27

Income year 1 July 2026 to 30 June 2027.

Every rate and threshold used in the calculation was checked against the official sources above.

How to use

  1. Enter your annual salary excluding super.
  2. Add any pre-tax (salary sacrifice) deductions that reduce your taxable income.
  3. Check the super guarantee rate (12% for 2026–27) and read your take-home pay per year, month, fortnight and week.

Formula

  • Tax 2026–27: 0 up to $18,200; 15c per $1 to $45,000; $4,020 + 30c per $1 to $135,000; $31,020 + 37c per $1 to $190,000; $51,370 + 45c per $1 above
  • Low income tax offset: $700, reduced by 5c per $1 over $37,500 and 1.5c per $1 over $45,000 (nil from $66,667)
  • Medicare levy = 2% × taxable income
  • Employer super = 12% × salary (up to the 2026–27 maximum contribution base of $270,830.00)

Worked example

$80,000.00 salary: income tax $14,520.00, Medicare levy $1,600.00, take-home $63,880.00 a year (about $2,456.92 a fortnight). Your employer also pays $9,600.00 super on top.

FAQ

Is this what my employer withholds?

Employers use the ATO PAYG withholding tax tables, which spread the year’s tax over each pay and round amounts, so each payslip can differ slightly from this annual estimate. Any difference is settled when you lodge your tax return.

Do I pay the full Medicare levy on a low income?

Not always. Low-income earners pay a reduced levy or none. The ATO had only published the 2025–26 thresholds when we checked, so this calculator charges the full 2% and shows a note when your income is low.

Is super included in my take-home pay?

No. The super guarantee is paid by your employer into your super fund on top of your salary, so it is shown separately.

What isn’t included?

HELP/student loan repayments, the Medicare levy surcharge (for higher earners without private hospital cover), other offsets and deductions, and non-resident or working holiday maker rates.
